Barn Owls Released

November 18, 2004 - Barn Owls Released

We released two barn owls on Thursday, 11/18. One was a youngster from a very late clutch, that fledged at Seneca Sawmill into a dangerous area, and may have had a collision, as he had enough feathers to fly, but couldn't; he was rescued by a night security guard on 10/25. The other came in 10/9 after being hit by a car out in the valley and badly bruised. He had limited function in one leg and wasn't flying. Both birds were kept through live prey training and released only after it was obvious that they were maintaining and even gaining weight, everything functional. They were released together into a barn in Pleasant Hill.
