Expanded Board of Directors
In our 2007 year-end print newsletter, we introduced three new board
members. I am delighted to introduce three MORE! Yes, our
board is expanding and with it our ability to plan, build on what we
have, and move us towards our goal of a new center on Dillard
Road.
Pam Whyte, CPA - has been our accountant for the last
14 years. A partner in Emge & Whyte, she has watched us grow,
and generously contributed to that growth, for many years. Her
knowledge of our history and commitment to our mission will help steer
us through all the development in the months and years ahead.
Karen Green, JD - is a land use attorney and land use
hearings officer in Bend. She also worked for many years at the
High Desert Museum in Interpretation and Display. She has been on
several boards and we are delighted to have her experience as we enter
a strategic planning process, as well as her grant writing skills!
Pony Gilbert - has his own custom lumber mill and
construction business in Veneta, and is also an extremely talented
Native American story teller and singer. He has worked
extensively with the 4J NATIVES program and generously shared his
stories and songs with our audiences at the Good Earth Home Show in
January and our Earth Day Celebrations. It is great to have the
point of view of another small business owner and active community
member, especially when delivered with his sense of humor.
Our Board of Directors has a big job - establishing and maintaining
all our policies, strategic planning, financial planning, fund raising,
'friend' raising, supervising the Executive Director, and guiding us
towards our vision of a world class raptor center. We are very
grateful to these generous individuals for all that they
contribute. We also very much appreciate the many hours and
assistance that has been contributed by Phyllis Barkhurst - a consultant with many years of non-profit experience. |
